FLCL - Full Series ReviewBy: Alucard Alvinista Nikitich
Story - 6/10
note: I try to keep away from putting any spoilers into reviews, so i
can't go into the story very much. Just the basic premise.YES! There is actually a story behind FLCL. Belive it or not. It's there. It's just crazy, hard to follow, and well, not all there. Come on, it's six episodes. It's hard to cram a big story into six episodes. But any ways, the storys not really what matters so much in FLCL (it matters, just not so much). The story itself revolves around Noata. A 13 year old kid. Noata has a problem you see. He lives in a town where nothing but the ordinary ever happens. Poor kid, what a boring life. Well, that all changes one day when his brothers girlfriend starts hitting on him, and a strange woman riding a Vespa hits him on the head with a gas powered bass guitar. Oh, did i mention robots keep popping out of Noatas head? My thoughts on the storyHonestly, I didn't get it the first time. But the more you watch it, the clearer it becomes, until it becomes as clear as it's gunna get (which isn't really that clear.). But like I said, thats not what important in FLCL. Whats important is just how crazy, funny, and awesome the series is. I know it's not every ones mug of coffee, but I definitely thought FLCL was spectacular. What makes it spectacular you ask? It's just crazy and fun. You can sit back, laugh, and just have fun with this series. You can tell thats what the creators were doing when they made it. Animation Quality - 8/10 The animation in FLCL is... hard to judge. It ranges from normal, to weird, to crazy, to making fun of South Park. But trust me, you won't be disappointed with the animation in this series, it helps add to the crazy/fun factor. Voice Acting - Dub: 3/10 - Sub: 9/10 The English voice acting was just... bad. I hated it. Characters voices were just... eww.. wrong. The voices didn't suit their characters at all. It annoyed me to no end.
Now the Japanese audio.. was awesome. I loved it! All the characters had suitable voice actors who really made their characters come to life.
I LOVE the Pillows, so i might be a little generous in this category *laughs* any ways, most of the music in the series is done by a Japanese band called "The Pillows". And again, they are awesome! I know people who HATE this series, but still watch it just for the music. Packaging - 6/10 Note: I'm reviewing a "Hong Kong Special" (AKA, pirate) I bought off ebay. The packaging was.. eh.. above average I guess. The artwork is nice, and theres a push button (unlike some of the other hong kong specials i have). But the synopsis on the back is written by someone who obviously doesn't really understand English very well. DVD Content - 6/10 Note: I'm reviewing a "Hong Kong Special" (AKA, pirate) I bought off ebay. Well, all six episodes on one DVD, two language tracks, and a directors commentary. Not a lot of extras huh? But then again, six episodes is a lot on one DVD. But the one extra that is there is the directors commentary. But it's in Japanese, and theres no subtitle track for it like in the Region 1 release, so that made me sad. Very sad indeed. Final Comments FLCL is brilliant! It's just crazy, trippy, weird fun! So if your a weirdo with an odd sense of humor (like yours truely) You won't regret watching this series. In fact, I watch this series all the time, over and over, and I still love it. Just don't be all serious, and uptight about it when your watching it and you'll enjoy it. Overall Score (not an average): 8 : I'd love to give it a 9 or a 10, but i can't. Simply because i know some people won't enjoy it.- Alucard Alvinista Nikitich
